He is an independent advisor with over 20 years’ experience in the power & renewable sector. He has successfully delivered more than 100 seminars, workshops, speeches and panel discussions in English, Spanish and German in more than 50 cities on all six continents to more than 1000 delegates to over 300 organizations from leading financial institutions, industrial corporations and governments.

He started out his career in a leading North European Strategy Consultancy, where he made substantial contributions to build the energy practice within the firm. He developed and implemented innovative distributions concepts for utility clients to face the competitive challenges of the newly liberalized German electricity market. Since 2002, he served exclusively the renewable energy sector in which he supported world leading Utilities, IPPs and Private Equity Investors, such as Iberdrola, AES, RWE, OMV, Englefield Capital and Hudson Clean Energy Partners to thoroughly assess international market opportunities and successfully assemble project portfolios across mature and emerging European renewable markets. Based on this work his clients were able to realize their investment strategy via the acquisition of local partners, greenfield and operating wind, solar, biomass, geothermal or hydro projects with pipelines of many thousands MW capacity.

He formed part of the Working Group ‘Financing the Energy Turnaround’ in Frankfurt and was one of the first members of the European Technology Platform for Wind Energy, as well as of EWEA, ACORE, LAWEA, EUBIA, ESHA and EGEC.

He focuses also on the particular challenges of power projects in emerging markets, such as Bulgaria, Turkey, Egypt, Georgia, New Zealand, Taiwan, South Korea, Mexico, South Africa or Pakistan. He flags risks to international investors coming from regulatory environment, grid connection and competitors. Developers are supported to raise equity, mitigates risks via the creation of international project consortia and achieve project finance bankability with domestic and international lenders.

He has accumulated specific experience in training development finance institutions such as European Investment Bank, KfW, EBRD, AfDB, AFC, Islamic Development Bank, ADB, IFC, FMO, GIZ, IFU, Obviam, HBOR, UNDP, JBIC, Industrial Development Corporation and OPEC Fund for International Development, selective examples include:

  • Mandated from the Global Climate Partnership Fund (GCPF) to deliver bespoke training sessions to local financial institutions in emerging markets to improve their capacities and analytical skills in renewable energy project finance.
  • Appointed to deliver Renewable energy finance training to the Ministry of Water, Irrigation and
    Energy of Ethiopia in March 2020 on behalf of Oxford Policy Management (OPML)
  • Appointed to deliver renewable and climate finance training on behalf of the IFC – Green Banking Academy to financial institutions in Latin American markets in November 2019
  • Appointed to deliver power project finance training to the Energy Practice of the Tony Blair Institute for Global Change in Nairobi, Kenya in October 2019
  • Power Purchase Agreements” inhouse training to the EBRD power team in London in December 2018 and May 2019.
  • Mandated Energy Consultant for the African Development Bank in the context of the New Deal on Energy Initiative from September 2017 to April 2018.
  • Appointed member of the Advisory Committee to the Global Power & Energy Conference, in Barcelona in September 2018.
  • Renewable Energy Competitive Bidding simulation in the context of the 2017 MBA program in coordination with Professor Ahmad Rahnema Alavi, Chair for Energy and Social Development, Chairman Financial Management Department, Deputy Dean for the Faculty of IESE Business School.
  • Appointed to develop International Markets modules for the relaunch of Renewable Energy Finance Studies for the Frankfurt School of Finance in 2018
  • “Renewable Energy Finance in-house training to the OPEC Fund for International Development in Vienna in April 2017.
  • Renewable Energy In-house training for the AfDB team in December 2016 involved in launching the “New Deal on Energy for Africa” from the African Development Bank with the aim to coordinate action across all existing programs (AREI, Power Africa, SE4All, ElectriFI, AELG).
  • Power Project Finance” Personal 1-to-1 training to the Vice President Power of the African Finance Corporation in November 2016.
  • Renewable Energy In-house training for the Arab African Investment Bank in Cairo in September 2016.
